Colin Trevorrow envisions a Jurassic World trilogy

Sometimes it can be seriously annoying when filmmakers are planning ahead for sequels before they even see how successful the film they're currently working on will be. Everyone wants to make a trilogy these days, whether it's warranted or not. But sometimes sequel plans make sense, especially when you're Colin Trevorrow, who directed JURASSIC WORLD and revived the JURASSIC PARK franchise with a film that earned over $1.6 billion at the global box office. It's pretty safe to say you can expect to milk that success for more installments.

Trevorrow is not returning to direct the sequel to JURASSIC WORLD, having passed the directorial baton to THE ORPHANAGE's J.A. Bayona, but he is still directly involved with the development of the project.

Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, where his latest film A MONSTER CALLS was screened, Bayona said that he is "very excited" to be working on the JURASSIC sequel and that there are plans for, yes, not one but two JURASSIC WORLD follow-ups.

We're very into Jurassic World right now. It's very exciting. Colin Trevorrow has envisioned a whole trilogy of films. Very ambitious. And we're writing the second chapter, working very close together."

I'm probably the only person hoping for this, but with the "military use for dinosaurs" seed having been planted in JURASSIC WORLD I would love to see this trilogy build up to a version of the scrapped John Sayles / William Monahan version of JURASSIC PARK 4 that would have featured genetically modified dinosaur soldiers.

Bayona's A MONSTER CALLS will reach theatres on December 23, 2016. JURASSIC WORLD 2 (not the official title) will follow on June 22, 2018
