The battle’s officially on!

Word out of Paramount today has it that PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 is going to be released theatrically on October 22nd, the same day as SAW VII (3D). Shite’s about to get bloody, yo!

While this may not seem like huge news, as we’ve known for months the two films would be competing against each other during SAW’s perennial goldmine window (October). However, given the recent directorial search for P.A. 2, we weren’t even sure that shite was gonna stay in the year 2010, much less be released the same day as the first three-dimensional SAW entry.

Now that Tod “Kip” Williams has been assigned to helm the sequel to Oren Peli’s “found footage” indie hit, Paramount is holding tight to its originally slated exhibition slot. It’s a sealed deal!

Of course, all of this is made even more interesting by the early reports of SAW VI director Kevin Greutert being courted to direct P.A. 2, only to have an option exercised in his contract that legally bound him to direct SAW VII instead. Which he is. Against his desire. It seems this is just another chapter in a long to be running saga between two successful franchises.

So let’s open up the betting. First off, as a general cinephile, which flick are you personally looking forward to most? Which flick do you think will be better? Which will perform better at the box-office? Can P.A. 2 actually trade punches with a flick that’s owned October for the last 6-7 years?

A lot to ponder, ay? Put a few in the chamber and let ’em rip below!
