Contract Flu Bird

Run for your lives! The FLU BIRDS are coming and they’re f*cking contagious!!!! And I’m not talking about a case of the sniffles. If you get attacked by one of these birds—you dead! At least, that is the promise of the Sci-Fi Channel’s next front-runner for Best Picture of the Year. Yup, it’s really called FLU BIRDS! Apparently killer mosquitoes, and bees, and snakes, and alligators, and ants, and rats weren’t enough! It’s time to get mauled by some flighty feathered friends!

Sci-Fi has commissioned Leigh Scott (HILLSIDE CANNIBALS) to direct this flocking flick, which is being described as THE BIRDS meets CABIN FEVER. Not a bad hybrid, I must say, but will the premise really deliver? Have a peck at the plot:

During what is supposed to be a quiet camping retreat, six teens find themselves being hunted by giant birds infected with a mysterious virus that has morphed the birds into deadly predators. When the teens flee from the woods to a nearby military bunker on the outskirts of town, the flock of infected birds descends, spreading the killer virus they carry throughout the nearby town. One by one, the townspeople succumb to the virus, but a small group of them and the teens are able to find impenetrable shelter… at least for now. Will the teens be able to make it out of the town alive or will they end up as bird food?

Well, I sure wouldn’t want to end up as bird food. That would just suck. Gee, I wonder if FLU BIRDS is going to suck? I guess we can all find out when the DVD lands on August 30th 2008 from First Look Entertainment (no word yet on when the Sci-Fi Channel will air it). I head there is a chance that they might opt to use this flick’s alternate title, SCREECH… but wouldn’t that make people think they made a movie about the geek from SAVED BY THE BELL?

CABIN FEVER’s lovely Jordan Ladd.
