There are tons of videos on YouTube featuring condensed versions of classic films. Some are meant to spoof the original movie while others are clear homages. What I never knew is that there is an entire film festival for one minute remakes of old films.

Virgin Radio’s 95.3 FM. a Vancouver based station, holds an annual Fake Film Festival for aspiring filmmakers to take any movie and redo it in 60 seconds. This entry from directors Gigi Saul Guerrero & Luke Bramley shows a clear love for the original Sam Raimi version of EVIL DEAD. With the remake hitting theaters next month, it is cool to see that a 21st century production of the movie still looks good with practical effects.

I don’t know about you, but I almost want a shot for shot remake of EVIL DEAD using the cheezy dialogue and overacting. What do you think?

The Fede Alvarez remake of EVIL DEAD hits theaters on April 5, 2013 and the one minute version will compete for the $10,000 grand prize at the 2013 Fake Film Festival o February 23rd.
