Cooper is a Magic Man

2006’s dueling magician movies (THE ILLUSIONIST & THE PRESTIGE) revealed a certain truth with movie goers: people love to watch shit about magicians. I mean, two magician movies in one year, both of which were pretty good and, in the end, both ended up being quite successful. So it’s no wonder the magician angle is being tapped once again… for the horror genre.

Variety announced this morning that Stuart Cooper, director of CHAMELEON, a flick I’ve never heard of before, will direct MAGIC MAN, a Russian/American indie flick for Raskin Productions and Hollywood Storm.

Russian/American? What the flock does that mean? Well, we have Russian and American stars lined up for roles in the flick, and one of the producers may be Russian… but other than that, I couldn’t tell you what makes this flick an international hybrid…

Starring Russian action star Alexander Nevsky, as well as Americans Billy Zane (pictured), Richard Tyson, Estelle Raskin, Jed Allan, and genre favorite Andrew Divoff, MAGIC MAN will focus on a magician who may also be a serial killer.

Oh the possibilities for awesomeness! Slashers / Serial Killers have always kind of been magicians, popping up places that no ordinary person would be able to get to in time (especially in a foot chase where the killer has been injured), a movie that exploits the magic angle of the slasher? I’m so there!

Stick around for more on MAGIC MAN as we hear it!
