There’s a couple bits of news coming in from the United States Toy Fair that I’ve decided to tell you all about. Both bits of info should be appreciated by collectors and fans of the genre.
First up is a Life Size Bust of The Creature from the Black Lagoon! Now this is pretty badass. Get a glimpse of it to the right, just click through to check out some more shots. This bust comes from Sideshow Collectibles and is based on the original screen-used mask. Each piece is individually hand-numbered and comes mounted on a decorative base. This bad boy is heading our way this Fall and is looking at a hefty $479.99 price tag. It’s available for pre-order over at Sideshow Collectibles.
The bust stands at 21” H x 11” W x 15” L x 15” D and weighs approximately 30 pounds. Here’s the pitch: Deep within the jungle of the Amazon, a skeletal hand is discovered on the riverbank, its webbed fingers uncovering a link between humans and aquatic life. When the excavation continues in the search for more of the intriguing skeleton, an unknown attacker stalks the scientists’ camp, and its murderous nature is revealed. Seeking parts of the skeleton believed to have washed downriver, the remaining scientists and the beautiful Ms. Lawrence travel to the Black Lagoon where the culprit is discovered, a gilled humanoid amphibious being – the Creature from the Black Lagoon!

Here’s the back story: First designed by H. R. Giger in 1979, the menacing star of the Alien series is a unique xenomorphic being. Since the species was reawakened by the crew of the Nostromo Spacecraft, the sole survivor, Ellen Ripley, has battled to keep humanity safe from alien destruction.
Ripley discovers that a lone fertile queen is responsible for the continuation of the species, producing a colony of sterile warriors. The Queen Alien is larger and stronger than the warriors. She has a second pair of arms and large heels protruding from her feet. A formidable crest protects her enlarged head, and she is thought to have an increased intelligence, showing signs of learning and adaptation. The diorama is cast in high-quality, heavyweight polystone and is also hand-finished and hand-painted. Each product is also individually hand-numbered.
