All of the non-news that has been surfacing regarding Ridley Scott’s upcoming ALIEN PREQUEL is a bit tiring, but this latest bit is actually pretty exciting. H.R. Giger’s wife, Carmen Scheifele, revealed in a German interview that her husband is on board to work on the picture. Giger, of course, designed the titular creature along with various sets for the original ALIEN.
It will be great to have the Swiss designer on board for the film if the notion is true, but fans of the series will remember that Giger’s bizarre ideas for ALIEN 3 were rejected. Hopefully his re-teaming with Scott will help hone his craft and go back to the original design.
Details remain scarce on the prequel, but a 2012 release date is proposed. Scheifele says that it will likely be in 3D, and she is under the impression that it will be separated into two films (which Fox denies). We’ll keep you updated.
