It was first announced back in 2014 that Edgar Wright was planning to direct an adaptation of author Andrew Smith's young adult novel GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE, and now that project's time may be drawing near.
GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE had initially been set up at Sony, and the studio ignited a bidding war when they let go of it. It seems New Regency has come out the winner, as the company is now in final negotiations to pick up the project, which Wright is focusing on as his next potential movie.
Scott Rosenberg wrote the screenplay adaptation of the novel, which has the following description:
In the small town of Ealing, Iowa, Austin and his best friend, Robby, have accidentally unleashed an unstoppable army. An army of horny, hungry, six-foot-tall praying mantises that only want to do two things.
Okay, Wright needs to officially make this his next movie, because I want to see the man bring giant, horny praying mantises to the screen as soon as possible.
Wright's previous credits include SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, THE WORLD'S END, and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. His new film BABY DRIVER is set to be released on June 28th.
