Crispin Glover looks back on Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Crispin Glover has been doing the press rounds to promote director Roger Avary's LUCKY DAY, a film in which he plays an eccentric hit man. He does the killing in that one, but during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment he looked back on a film he was in thirty-five years ago, one where he was just one of several characters who were in the film to be killed.

That movie was FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER, the fourth film in the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise and one of the most popular.

Glover told Yahoo,

Just before I got FRIDAY THE 13TH, I had moved out of my parents' house, I only had a certain amount of money and I was getting low on funds. And then I got FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4. I needed a job. I needed to work. I needed to continue working."

There's not much enthusiasm for the project in that quote, and Glover confirmed that he is not a fan of the FRIDAY THE 13TH series.

I've only seen two of those films, I saw the original film and the one that I'm in. I remember when I saw the original one, not too long before it I'd seen the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, and when I saw the first FRIDAY THE 13TH, I thought, 'Well, this is extremely derivative.' I liked the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE very much. There's a whole industry that's basically what they call the slasher industry. I find it derivative of that particular original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE."

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER was just a gig he took when he was desperate for a paycheck, but Glover turned in a very memorable performance, and his character Jimmy is one of the most well-liked teens on Jason Voorhees' body count. It's not surprising to hear that he wasn't (and still isn't) into the F13 movies, as a lot of the people involved with the early films in the series weren't proud to be working on movies like that.

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER can be purchased through Amazon, and LUCKY DAY can be rented on Amazon Prime Video.
