Over at Bloody Disgusting, the guys managed to score a couple of scoops from Rue Morgue’s 2nd annual Festival Of Fear, which took place this past weekend in Toronto, Canada (lucky stiffs). Among the news items that surprised folks were Crispin Glover’s revelation about the next BATMAN film and Tony “CANDYMAN” Todd’s next projects, including FINAL DESTINATION 4 (and no, that’s no typo).
According to the report, Crispin Glover talked for quite a while (4 questions in 45 minutes) and was very thorough. Crispin spent the majority of the interview talking about his directorial debut called WHAT IS IT?, a black comedy also written by Glover that “tells the inner and outer struggles of a young man facing villains and demons on multiple planes.” The whole cast, excluding him, have Down Syndrome. As for the rumors that he will play the Joker in the next BATMAN, they were shot down. According to Crispin, they are strictly internet based but he’d love the opportunity to do it. He hopes that the buzz might rub off on the studio, so keep those rumour mills churning (think of his stuff in WILLARD if you’re not convinced he could pull it off). Glover’s next projects include Zemeckis’ BEOWULF and a slasher flick called SIMON SAYS, where he’ll play the dual role of the title character and his twin brother. Simon is in the great tradition of Leatherface and Michael Myers but more psychological, and he doesn’t wear a mask.
Over in Tony Todd’s camp, he says that his thing right now is playing DARKWATCH on his XBox (go figure). His next films include HOUSE OF GRIMM and SHADOW: DEAD RIOT. In the latter, he plays a vampire in a women’s prison. He also talked about his role in THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, which just recently wrapped up. Look for a January release. When talking about CANDYMAN, despite the studio wanting a bigger name, director Bernard Rose was insistant that Todd was the visual embodiment of the character, which was why he got the part. As for FINAL DESTINATION 4, it’s been pitched by the original film’s writer and he might get involved with it.
Whew, that’s a buttload of stuff, and that’s not the half of it! Head on over to check out the full report! We’ll bring you more on these projects as things are revealed.
