Critics scare Flux

Variety reports today that Paramount has cancelled all reviewer screenings for big-budget Charlize Theron starrer AEON FLUX. In the immortal words of Scooby-Doo, “Rut-roh raggy”. I mean let’s be honest, you don’t block out critics when you love your film.

Of course that’s not the party line. Here’s what studio brass is reported to feel on the matter – “Aeon” is tracking well among its core audience and sees little upside to be gained from advance reviews, given the usual critical reaction to sci-fi fare.

Usual critical reaction to sci-fi fare? Give me a f*cking break. Don’t blame the critics if you think your movie sucks. No doubt it’ll still open well, but considering that none of the looks we’ve gotten so far have been all that thrilling, maybe it’ll just sink into obscurity like a big ole sci-fi ISHTAR.

Still there’s always one great reason to go see it…
