No worries, Crooked Man spin-off still in the works

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Yesterday we passed along word that it looks like THE NUN 2 will be the next film written within The Conjuring Universe. But what's going on with THE CROOKED MAN spin-off? Well, no worries. Producer Peter Safran confirms everyone behind the scenes is still interested in telling that story:

There are a bunch of things that we're exploring in [Annabelle Comes Home] that I just love. That I think are going to be great. Frequently, the audience tells you what the next one should be. When we did Conjuring 2, we all thought Crooked Man would be the next one out the gate. We just loved it. It was just a great character. Instead, the audience was so fascinated by the nun.

Safran continued:

It's not that we won't do Crooked Man, but you kind of have to balance out [the franchise]. I'm sure that we have ideas of what we want to do beyond this, from the artifact room, but I suspect that we'll probably … The audience will tell us exactly what we should be doing.

Javier Botet played the character and said last summer the project was still being developed and he hadn't heard any updates.

There's no updates. The last update was a few months ago, they were speaking about what was going to be the next movie. But I think they were speaking about doing the third part of Annabelle. But since we were shooting The Conjuring 2, the producers told me that they had the plan, and they expect in the future we will be going to do the Crooked Man spin-off. The last year we've been speaking and they still have the intention and the screenplay is being done. I think they are changing, but the project exists, but there's no new updates.

We'll let you know when we hear more on a possible CROOKED MAN spin-off. Until then remember that ANNABELLE COMES HOME is headed our way this summer. Here's the official synopsis:

Determined to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed doll to the locked artifacts room in their home, placing her “safely” behind sacred glass and enlisting a priest’s holy blessing. But an unholy night of horror awaits as Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, who all set their sights on a new target—the Warrens’ ten-year-old daughter, Judy, and her friends.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have signed on to appear in the new film reprising their THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 roles of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren along with Mckenna Grace as their daughter Judy, Madison Iseman is her babysitter cousin and Katie Sarife (Supernatural, Girl Meets World, Youth & Consequences) as her best friend who gets wrapped up in the evil shenanigans as well. The movie is all set to wreak more havoc within your local multiplex come June 28th, 2019. How excited are YOU? Let us know below!
