Remake of the cult 90’s slasher flick Urban Legend casts its new leads!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this year, we reported on an upcoming reboot of one of the better post-SCREAM 90's teen slasher films URBAN LEGEND (WATCH HERE) – which starred a young Jared Leto, Joshua Jackson, and Michael Rosenbaum – and was about

a university beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle (Natasha Gregson Wagner) is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie (Alicia Witt) begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles to find the killer and stop the bloodshed before she becomes the next victim.

Meanwhile, the new film will be helmed by WHAT KEEPS YOU ALIVE writer-director Colin Minihan, and will star the recently cast Sydney Chandler and Katherine McNamara in the lead roles. Here is the official synopsis:

The movie will center on a diverse cast of college students as they navigate a series of bizarre deaths that resemble urban legends linked to the darkest corners of social media.

Furthermore, according to Collider, the film "will explore deepfake technology, which is becoming more popular — and accessible — online", which is a really pertinent issue right now. The only issue, of course, is if the film will be able to handle the issue with maturity and tact – which is worrisome considering it's essentially going to be a slasher film. But the recent BLACK CHRISTMAS remake was able to tackle dark, mature subject matter – while also not skimping out on the blood, thrills, and horror – with aplomb, so it's not like it would be impossible. Here's hoping.

So what do you guys think? Fans of the original? If so, how does the remake sound? Either way, sound off below!
