I’ve said before that one of the worst crimes in this industry is when a kickass film blows everyone away with the first installment, only to have it drop off the map (and hard) due to crappy sequels. PUMPKINHEAD (for now), JEEPERS CREEPERS, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, the list goes on.
Probably one that hurts the most is THE HOWLING, which was a kickass ride, but soon became garbage with the second film and spiraled into marsupial werewolves wearing nun’s clothing (I swear I’m not making this up). If there was a series that was in need of a reboot, it was this one. According to a short little article at IFMagazine with Joe Dante discussing his MASTERS OF HORROR involvement, Joe had this to say about the much-rumoured remake of one of his first films: “They are definitely going to do it, because people keep calling me asking about who owns the rights to it.”
Well, that’s at least an indication that Hollywood is once again not only running out of ideas, but also that we’re potentially going to be getting a film that will hopefully be better than the crap sequels the series has had to endure. Plus it gives us an excuse to watch the film without pants (you’d have to see the film in order to get that one). To read the entire article, head here.
