One of the last times we told you about Joe Dante was back in May, when word dropped that he was in line to direct BAT OUT OF HELL. Well that’s gone right out the window.
Dante recently spoke to video blog This Is Some Scene. On the show Dante dropped a few interesting updates, one involving BAT OUT OF HELL while the other deals with his upcoming horror flick THE HOLE.
Apparently Dante is no longer attached to BAT OUT OF HELL, which follows a red-eye flight from L.A. to New York during which hijackers confront the monstrous cargo. It was penned by Drew McWeeney and Scott Swan. Dante doesn’t give a reason for his departure, just that he’s no longer attached to the project and won’t be directing.
Then the topic changed to a film Dante WILL be involved with. That movie is THE HOLE, which is about two brothers who discover a mysterious hole in the basement that leads to their worst nightmares. I’m definately stoked for this one, especially after hearing the news today! Looks like Dante is filming THE HOLE in 3-D, so hopefully we’ll be seeing some twisted imagery jumping out at us in the form of ‘worst nightmares.’ Awesome! THE HOLE is penned by VACANCY screenwriter Mark Smith.
