As the original trilogy adaptation’s star Noomi Rapace takes Hollywood by storm, filmmaker David Fincher has headed to her home country for his own English-language take on Stieg Larsson’s bestseller THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
While talking to Sweden’s SvD (via ToH), Fincher says that he wants to make a “Swedish noir”: “I hope I can find an atmosphere reminiscent of CHINATOWN.” The director also says that screenwriter Steve Zaillian made his own version of the story from Larsson’s novel, and that “there are scenes that will resemble ones in the Swedish film, but it is the book that we are filming.”
Fincher has also added actors Steven Berkoff (best known as the villain from BEVERLY HILLS COP and RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II), Joely Richardson (“Nip/Tuck”) and David Dencik, who appeared in the first DRAGON TATTOO adaptation. They join an impressive cast that already includes Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard and Robin Wright.
