It was just a couple days ago that Jake hit us all with the newest casting update from David Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and here we are today with more GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO news!
Now before you get all excited let me tell you that today’s update doesn’t have any huge announcements or anything but it does have Fincher talking a bit about the project, and let’s face it.. that’s always fun. You see Fincher recently chatted it up with Sweden’s SvD and spilled the goods on some details regarding the upcoming film, the main one being that Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO will not be a remake of the Swedish original:
– There is absolutely no reason to do this. Steve Zaillian has written the new screenplay, and he has been based on the book and made their own version. Sure, there are scenes that will resemble them in the Swedish film, but it is the book that we are filming. …. He talks a lot about “Swedish Noir”, and says that his movie also atmospherically will differ from the Swedish. …. It was very effectively done in an American way. I’m looking to try to catch Sweden. I hope I can find an atmosphere reminiscent of “Chinatown”.
Intriguing, no? If anything I’d say this news should get you even more excited for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. What says you guys? Be sure to hit us with your thoughts on the whole thing below!
Forty years ago, when Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vanger’s are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.
The film stars Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarasgard, Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer, Joley Richardson, Steven Berkoff and David Dencik. Filming on THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is taking place as we speak in Stockholm with a December 21, 2011 release already announced.
