Was very recently that the first casting news for NBC’s “Constantine” began to seep in. Matt Ryan was announced as the star in late February, while Lucy Griffiths, Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford all joined the series as the other three principal characters last week. That said, “Constantine” is already primed to go before cameras, as showrunner David S. Goyer revealed in an interview with I Am Rogue.
We start shooting next week. Shooting the pilot. We only have four series regulars but we’ve cast them all now. I’m proud to say that Constantine is actually being played by a British guy, Matt Ryan and he is going to have blond hair.”

Goyer went on to talk about a potentially touchy issue: the fact that John Constantine is a chain-smoker. Will that be depicted on the show?
That’s a tricky one on network TV. We’re negotiating right now. He will have his signature trench coat and skinny tie. I would say that the show clings more closely to the sourse material then the film did. Even though the film was interesting.
Goyer also indicated we might see other DC characters popping up on the series:
…And quite a few other characters from the comic books and possibly from the DC universe should we move forward will be showing up.”
Should be quite interesting to see how they handle material such as “Hellblazer” on a network like NBC. “Constantine” is being directed by Neil Marshall; NBC has not set a premiere date yet.
