David Leitch teases that a streaming service is into Atomic Blonde sequel

Atomic Blonde sequel, Charlize Theron

Equal parts spycraft and bad-ass action, ATOMIC BLONDE followed top-level MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) to Berlin as she's tasked with retrieving a stolen list which contains the names of every intelligence agent active in the city. The David Leitch film was a critical and commercial success, and fans quickly began wondering when we'd see a sequel.

Charlize Theron confirmed that a sequel was in the works last year, but we haven't heard all that much since. While speaking with /Film about HOBBS & SHAW, director David Leitch said that there's still talk of a sequel and that a certain streaming service is into it.

I think there is [still talk of a sequel]. A streaming service is into it. I don’t know all the details. I was a work-for-hire on that movie, but at the end of the day, Kelly McCormick – my producing partner and my wife – she will be involved, I’m sure, as a producer. That’s how I got the gig in the first place. We’ll see.

Doesn't exactly sound like a guarantee that a sequel will materialize, but I'd love to see Lorraine return to crack some more skulls. While speaking with JoBlo last year, David Leitch stated that he'd love to continue Lorraine's story if all parties are down to return. "I think she's an incredible character and it's a really fun and interesting world and it's an interesting take on the spy genre," Leitch said. "Sort of like revisionist history look that's centered around a character with an existential crisis and then we wrap it up with some great trappings of music and hardcore action." There had also been talk of taking Lorraine into the '90s for the next film, but it remains to be seen what form this potential sequel could take.

However, both Charlize Theron and David Leitch will be quite busy in the near future, so we may be a ways off from returning to ATOMIC BLONDE. Theron will be returning for FAST & FURIOUS 9 to reprise her role of Cipher, and she's also starring in Gina Prince-Bythewood's action/fantasy THE OLD GUARD, which tells the story of a small group of immortal mercenaries. As for David Leitch, he's in pre-production on an adaptation of Ubisoft's THE DIVISION for Netflix.
