Just days after announcing their acquisition of the rights to David R. Ellis’ untitled 3D shark thriller, Relativity Media has set a September 2, 2011 release date for the picture. The JAWS-inspired film is written by Will Hayes and Jesse Studenberg. Here’s the plot:

The story revolves around seven men and women who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana’s Gulf area. When their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks, unheard of in freshwater lakes, they soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals.

Formerly known as SHARK NIGHT 3D, the movie stars Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee (below), Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka. An official title is expected to be announced soon.

Ellis is no stranger to killer animals, having already tackled SNAKES ON A PLANE. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a good shark flick (OPEN WATER is the last that I recall), so let’s hope this one gets the job done next year.
