David S. Goyer and A24 developing mysterious horror project

David S. Goyer may be known to most as one of the writers behind Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy and the new Superman films, but genre fans will never forget that this guy toiled away in the horror field for many years, writing such guilty pleasures as DEMONIC TOYS, ARCADE and THE PUPPET MASTERS, while also penning elevated genre fare like the BLADE trilogy and DARK CITY.

And since he cultivated his status as an A-list screenwriter, Goyer actually hasn’t left the frights behind. He helmed THE UNBORN in 2008, recently produced NBC’s Constantine series, and is currently producing the creepy ghost story THE FOREST.  Now he’s just climbed aboard a mysterious scarefest with distributor A24 (UNDER THE SKIN, DARK PLACES).

Via press release, we learn Goyer and his production company Phantom Four are working on bringing a high concept horror tale to the big screen. No plot details are available, but we know it’s an “elevated horror story in a very unique setting.”

About the project, A24 said, “We could not feel luckier to be working with this group of master class filmmakers; it’s truly a perfect team. This is an incredibly inventive, ambitious take on a horror movie and we can’t wait to share more about it with the world.”

The film was written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (Akiva Goldsman’s upcoming STEPHANIE) and will be directed by Marc Munden, who helmed  the acclaimed UK series Utopia and a couple eps of Starz’s pirate drama Black Sails. Goyer and Kevin Turen will produce, alongside A24 and Eva Maria Daniels of VisionChaos Productions.
