Hugh Jackman decided to hang up Wolverine’s claws after the release of Logan, and it’s easy to see why. The James Mangold movie was one hell of a conclusion to the character that Jackman had played for nearly twenty years, but the actor couldn’t stay away. It was announced several months ago that Hugh Jackman would return as Wolverine for Deadpool 3, but worry not, the sequel won’t screw with the Logan timeline.

Hugh Jackman spoke on Sirius XM and confirmed that Logan is still the proper Wolverine ending and that Deadpool 3 won’t change that.

All because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now, we can go back because, you know, it’s ‘science.’ And so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans, too.

As Hugh Jackman teases, Deadpool 3 could use time travel or the multiverse to get Logan back in action, but the actor could just be using previous Marvel movies as examples. Production on Deadpool 3 is expected to kick off next spring under the direction of Shawn Levy, who recently teased that the sequel will continue the R-rated, hardcore violence of the first two movies. “We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping Deadpool every day now,” Levy said. “It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a Deadpool movie. And it has Logan in it. And it has Wolverine in it. It’s too fun. I’m having so much fun, and I haven’t even hit the shooting floor yet. […] I have to say, developing a Deadpool movie is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life because it’s not just that it’s rated R. It’s that it’s so filled with self-awareness, and that makes in-writing very, very fun in a way that is unique to that franchise.

Oh my God, I’m thrilled,” Ryan Reynolds said of Hugh Jackman returning for Deadpool 3. “It’s like old home week. To get to be on set with one of my closest friends each and every day is a dream come true. But to do it with these two iconic characters side by side, that’s beyond our wildest dreams.Deadpool 3, or The Wolverine Show featuring Deadpool, is set to hit theaters on November 8, 2024.
