Deadpool and Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds asked his good friend Hugh Jackman if he’d like to play Wolverine one more time after putting him to rest in Logan. While they cheated Wolverine’s initial send-off, it was for a good reason — they weren’t going to miss an opportunity to have the famous comic frenemies being played by the original big screen actors for these X-Men characters. So, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman gave us an amazing buddy comedy superhero film that could serve as the perfect capper to Deadpool’s trilogy. So, what’s next going forward? Will Deadpool return in an Avengers sequel?

Ryan Reynolds moves the spotlight away

Reynolds isn’t done playing Wade Wilson. Although it’s not clear if he’ll play the character until he’s 90, like Jackman will. According to Variety, Reynolds has written more Deadpool material, but he doesn’t think the character will be center stage anymore. Reynolds said in a recent interview with Sunday Today,

I have some stuff kind of written, but I don’t think I am ever going to center him again. He is a supporting character. He is a guy who is great in a group.”

When he was asked if he thinks the Merc with a Mouth will ever join the X-Men or the Avengers, Reynolds won’t count it out, but he does think it would be a sign for the character to retire, “If he becomes either, we’re at the end. Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider. His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”

Deadpool in Doomsday?

While there’s speculation and rumors about Reynolds’ involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, the actor did tease his followers with a cryptic message on social media where he drew an “anarchy” symbol over the Avengers logo. Then, The Hollywood Reporter seemed to confirm that Deadpool will be a part of Doomsday in some fashion.
