Death gets an update in the trailer for new horror flick Countdown

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

There are apps for news, dating, movies, caloric intake and everything else that makes up our lives, so why not have an app that tells you when it’s all going to come to an end? If you’re someone saying “Hell no” to the death app, then too bad, because in the trailer for the new movie COUNTDOWN some poor souls have no choice but stare down the barrel of their death countdown, which counts the seconds until some sort of demon comes for them. Those people out there who still carry flip phones are looking pretty smart now, huh?

So, HEREDITARY this is not. This flick about a killer app looks a bit silly and seems heavily reliant on the kinds of jump scares we can see coming from a mile away…but there can also be fun to be had from that. You have P.J. Byrne in there providing some levity, hinting the movie may lean into the goofy premise and take things down a crazy route. Movies like HAPPY DEATH DAY have provided a fun spin on tired subgenres of horror before, so why can’t something like COUNTDOWN?

Written and directed by Justin Dec, the movie stars Elizabeth Lail, Jordan Calloway, Talitha Bateman, Tichina Arnold, and Peter Facinelli.

Here’s the synopsis:

In COUNTDOWN, when a young nurse (Elizabeth Lail) downloads an app that claims to predict exactly when a person is going to die, it tells her she only has three days to live. With time ticking away and death closing in, she must find a way to save her life before time runs out.

COUNTDOWN is in theaters October 25.
