Death Race: Beyond Anarchy Don Michael Paul

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is shifting its releases around for strategic reasons. The upcoming TREMORS sequel TREMORS: A COLD DAY IN HELL had originally been scheduled for a Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD release on January 30th, but then the film got bumped out of that date and pushed to May when Universal decided to release their DEATH RACE sequel DEATH RACE: BEYOND ANARCHY on January 30th instead.

Now both DEATH RACE: BEYOND ANARCHY's solo release and the 4-movie DEATH RACE franchise collection it's part of have been removed from Universal's release schedule.

Directed by TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES' Don Michael Paul (who also directed TREMORS: A COLD DAY IN HELL), DEATH RACE: BEYOND ANARCHY is the third sequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's DEATH RACE, which was itself a remake of the Roger Corman production DEATH RACE 2000.

Starring Danny Trejo, Fred Koehler, Zach McGowan, Danny Glover, Christine Marzano, Terence Maynard, and Velislav Pavlov, BEYOND ANARCHY has the following synopsis:

Danny Trejo returns as the ruthless bookie, Goldberg, in the wildest, bloodiest, Death Race ever. After a failed attack on inmate and legendary driver, Frankenstein, Black Ops specialist Connor Gibson (McGowan) infiltrates a super-maximum federal prison with one goal – enter the immoral and illegal Death Race and take Frankenstein down. Connor enlists the help of Baltimore Bob (Glover) and Lists (Koehler), and unexpectedly falls in love with bartending beauty, Jane (Marzano). Connor will have to fight for more than his life in this brutal world of no guards, no rules, no track, and no fear.

We'll let you know when Universal finds a new date for the sequel.

In the meantime, I need to catch up on this DEATH RACE series. A fan of DEATH RACE 2000, I didn't like Anderson's film very much at all, but I still want to give its sequels a chance. While this franchise has been carrying on, Corman also produced a sequel to the original film, DEATH RACE 2050, which was released by Universal last year. I need to get around to watching that one, too.
