Mucho thanks to Javier Ruiz de Arcaute of La Horas Perdidas for sending this info our way.

God bless Guillermo del Toro. Seriously, the guy is a class act all the way, a brilliant director and he’s not afraid to speak his mind. That said, things have been quiet for the director of HELLBOY after it’s success, save for his next project, EL LABERINTO DEL FAUNO (aka PAN’S LABYRINTH for those who aren’t fluent in Spanish).

In the new issue of El Pais, there’s an article on del Toro’s new film, which is currently filming in Segovia and Madrid. The film stars Ivana Baquero as Ofelia, a young girl that travels with her mother and adoptive father to a rural area up North in Spain, 1944 after the rise of Fascism. The girl lives in an imaginary world of her own creation and faces the real world with much chagrin. Post-war Fascist repression is at its height in rural Spain and the girl must come to terms with that through a fable of her own.

Along with the article, there are a couple of pics from the production. Also, at del Toro’s Homepage, Mr. Director himself has posted a teaser poster of the film. PAN’S LABYRINTH is set for release in 2006.
