We all love a good mindf*ck of a movie that promises to b*tchslap your brain and leave you begging for more right? Now while this new project might not fill that description perfectly, it does have potential to be one hell of a good time! So with that said, let me tell you all about a new project heading our way from director Talal Selhami called MIRAGES.
The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting scored the good word on MIRAGES from Selhami, which includes a detailed synopsis along with a pretty badass one-sheet. Now you can get a hint of the new poster above and below, but you’ll want to click through on that shot below to see the entire thing. As for the synopsis, well I’ve got that for you right here:
Five individuals with contrasting profiles compete for a position within “Matsuika”, a multinational corporation recently set up in Morocco. Following an interview with the CEO, they are advised to undertake a mysterious test in a secret location. It will determine who will hold the position. All five applicants accept and are instructed into a distressing bus, with no windows.
After endless driving, an accident occurs with the candidates trapped in the wreck. Thanks to a joint effort, they manage to evacuate the bus only to find themselves lost in the desert with their driver nowhere to be found. They start to wander, questioning the nature of the accident. Is it part of the test? Despite their will to survive and an urge to find clues, mirages of their most intimate fears start to haunt them.
Sounds pretty damn cool right? I’m just hoping Selhami opts for some more intelligent scares via the mirages instead of the go-to jump-scares most of these horror flicks now-a-days are trying to feed to us. So why the sudden update on this potentially awesome project? For Cannes of course! That seems to be the going trend today, doesn’t it?
Selhami even describes the film as CUBE meets “Lost” meets THE SHINING…. Well damn… that is one hell of a comparison! Let’s hope MIRAGES lives up to it! With Cannes right around the corner hopefully we’ll be hearing more on MIRAGES sooner rather than later. As always, keep it here for updates as we hear them!
