Dexter revival teaser finds Michael C. Hall back in action

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Showtime has unveiled a new teaser for its Dexter revival featuring a smiley-faced Michael C. Hall as the serial killer Dexter Morgan.

In the teaser, we find ourselves gazing out the window of a cabin and taking in the natural splendor of a wintery snowscape. As the camera pans back, and we enter a warm house, a cover of "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is playing, a song originally from The Animals. If you look close, you can see a wriggling body beneath a black tarp, the victim's screams muffled by the music. As we watch them squirm, we're treated to a shot of Hall sporting a sh*t-eating grin. Oh Dexter, you rascal, you.

Showtime's limited series revival for Dexter will find the Bay Harbor Butcher making his way to New York. The revival will give the series a new finale, effectively erasing the disappointment that was the show's Season 8 end in 2013. Regardless of how the show performs, Showtime has no intention of continuing the series beyond the revival. We get 10 episodes of Dexter Morgan's trip to New York. No more, no less.

Joining Hall for the Dexter revival is Julia Jones (Wind RIverI, The Mandalorian), Alano Miller (Underground, Loving), Johnny Sequoyah (Among Ravens, Believe), Jamie Chung (Big Hero 6, Gifted), Oscar Wahlberg (Manchester By the Sea, Slender Man), Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird, The Blacklist), and Michael Cyril Creighton (Spotlight, The Post), with Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers) playing a new serial killer for the series.

Clyde Phillips, the showrunner for the first four (and best) seasons of Dexter, will return to oversee the show's limited series return. Producing the revival is Marcos Siega, Hall, and Phillips.

Are you excited by the prospect of Dexter getting a new series finale? How dark and disturbing do you think Clancy Brown will be as another serial killer on the show? Who do you think is underneath that tarp in the teaser trailer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
