Variety announced this morning that Dimension Film’s genre video arm, Dimension Extreme, will be busting out with an assload of new direct to DVD titles in 2009–mostly sequels and spin-offs of some of their bigger genre hits!

Not just one or two, but a whopping 18 new direct to DVD titles are being released in 2009. I know what you want to know… what titles can we be expecting? Expect more entries in the CHILDREN OF THE CORN, FEAST, and HELL RIDE series, a SAW-esque flick called DEAD BY DAYLIGHT, and possibly new entries in the PIRANHA and HALLOWEEN series as well! I shit you not!

Obviously that’s not 18 titles right there, but that’s all the info. they’re giving up at this time. I’m a little shocked and amazed by the whole thing, mostly because I wasn’t expecting Dimension Extreme to be going in the direct to DVD sequel/prequel/spin-off direction. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

If you wanna blame anything, blame the success of the FROM DUSK TILL DAWN sequels, as they were cited as examples of how successful these type of direct to DVD sequels can be. While they’re not the worse movies ever made, they’re definitely not gold either… let’s hope they do right and increase the quality a titch.

What I’m most intrigued is the by-the-way announcement of DVD spin-offs of next year’s theatrical PIRANHA 3D and HALLOWEEN! PIRANHA I can see going STD, but HALLOWEEN? Are they serious? Do you they really want to kill the series by doing that? How f*cking weird is that?

Anyway, to check out the gory details, click HERE, and keep your eye out for these DVD titles headed your way next year.

Back for more on DVD? Say it ain’t so!
