Wow! Some projects sound so freaking cool that I almost hate hearing about them this early because then I have to wait so long to see them. Such is the case with SHIVER, a based on a true story project about a group of New Year’s Eve revelers who are stranded in a Minnesota snowstorm. They stumble upon a home occupied by a widowed doctor obsessed with torture as scientific study.
Holy shite! How’s that concept grab you? Dimension bought the script by Mikey Wigart, and L.I.E. director Michael Cuesta will helm. Cuesta takes a philisophical approach to our beloved genre.
“When it’s done honestly, with serious intent, (the horror genre) can tap into the social fears and anxieties of our time,” Cuesta said of his intentions in making the pic. “I find that exploring the grotesque, the abhorrent and what disturbs us is a chance to convey some universal truths about us and our society.”
Very thoughtful of him. And certainly not his fault that I’m too stuck on the thought of trapped revelers and a torture doctor! to delve into the sociological archetypes that genre work explores. One of these days I really am going to have to grow up.
