Could there be more extremely graphic autopsies in this October’s SAW VI? I only ask because the folks over at Bloody-D have scored the news that James Van Patten will be reprising his role from SAW IV. In case your memory is a tad fuzzy, Van Patten played “Dr. Heffner” (above), one of the gents that was opening up Jigsaw’s chest in the beginning. Yes, we have another little used character returning for, most likely, a more expanded role. It’s one of the biggest rules of the SAW universe.
As of now, the only other confirmed “returning” cast members are Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, and Shawnee Smith as the lovely “Amanda” (which is partly why I think this installment will be better than part V). Amanda was a nicely layered character and Smith did a bang-up job playing her. SAW V lacked the certain flare that was evident in all the previous SAWs leading up to it. We need to recapture that magic for this (allegedly) final chapter.
SAW VI is being directed by Kevin Greutert from part 4 and 5 scribers, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. The release date is set for October 23rd. Game on.
