Don’t Breathe 2: Stephen Lang describes sequel as ‘very much its own thing’

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Last month, we were surprised to hear that the long-awaited sequel to Fede Alvarez's 2016 film DON'T BREATHE (watch it HERE) had managed to get through production without anyone knowing it was filming. The movie is set to reach theatres on August 13, 2021, and during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter star Stephen Lang talked about the making of the sequel.

DON'T BREATHE 2 was directed by Rodo Sayagues, who co-wrote the first movie with Alvarez. Alvarez also wrote the sequel with Sayagues. The story is set

several years after the home invasion of the first movie, with the Blind Man living in quiet solace… until his past sins catch up to him.

The Blind Man has been hiding out for years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire. Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her.

Lang said he first saw the script a couple years ago and was impressed by it, and while bringing that script to life

I never walked away from a scene on this feeling like we'd left something on the table there. We really strived to get everything we could out of it. It has a tremendous kinship with the first film, but in many ways — in every way — it's very much its own thing."

His character The Blind Man doesn't speak much, so

we kind of debate and negotiate and massage every word, every phrase, every grunt. We all have a ball doing it, because we enjoy working together. On the day-to-day life on set, I had a lot of input into it."

The synopsis indicates that The Blind Man is the hero this time around, which definitely goes along with Lang calling this film "very much its own thing" in every way. Will viewers be able to set aside their memories of what The Blind Man did in the first movie – which includes murder, holding people captive, and that infamous turkey baster scene – to root for him this time? We'll find out in nine months.
