Damn, the Robert Downey Jr. comeback train just keeps on chuggin’ along, doesn’t it? First IRON MAN, then SHERLOCK HOLMES, now… LESTAT?! I shit you not. According to Bloody-D, the man who was once deemed the “poster boy for birth control” by Rodney Dangerfield (in a movie) is in serious talks to pick up where Tom Cruise left off in the form of Anne Rice’s king blood-sucker.
The vampire role is to be featured in Universal Pictures’ upcoming franchise reboot, THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES, which I believe is going to be a sort of mish-mash amalgam of the numerous vamp books from Ms. Rice’s series. Now, I know that Downey Jr. seems to be popping up everywhere lately, but honestly, who cares? The dude can really friggin’ act and if he’s also cleaned up his once-tainted “act”, then I say cast him in anything.
Of course, none of this will mean anything if this still-as-of-now rumor does not come to fruition. What do you guys think? Could Robert do Lestat justice? It sure has been a while since INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. Do we really need to re-visit this character now? I guess we’ll see.
