It wouldn't be a real movie news month if we didn't hear about a different name attached to the upcoming DARK TOWER movie/TV series that seems to be in perpetual development. Last we heard, this project was officially a go at Sony, with Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner writing the screenplay and Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Stephen King possibly producing. According to Deadline, word is Sony and Co. have agreed on a director to helm the film, and that would be Nikolaj Arcel.

Arcel most recently wrote and directed A ROYAL AFFAIR, starring Alicia Vikander and Mads Mikkelsen, which was nominated for an Academy Award in the Foreign Language Film category. Arcel was also responsible for the screenplay for the original Swedish THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, starring Noomi Rapace. It looks as though as his particular stylings caught the eyes of everyone at Sony, as he'll also be doing a rewrite on the screenplay for THE DARK TOWER.

I can't say that I'm fluent with the adventures of Roland Deschain, the Last Gunslinger, or any of the other characters or intricacies of THE DARK TOWER series, but I can see that fans are insanely passionate about this becoming a film/TV show. I would love to see this project come to fruition but until I see some official announcements from Sony regarding the cast and crew involved, I'm staying cautiously optimistic. You DARK TOWER fans seemed to have been burned one too many times, so here's hoping you all get what you've been patiently waiting for!

I always enjoyed this easter egg from the opening of THE MIST.
