Dune: Denis Villeneuve confirms Feyd-Rautha will be in Part Two

Director Denis Villeneuve is so dedicated to bringing as much of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune to the screen that he has split his adaptation into two epic parts; Dune: Part One is currently in theatres and available to watch on the HBO Max streaming service, and Dune: Part Two is scheduled to reach theatres on October 20, 2023. But despite Villeneuve’s interest in being faithful to the source material, apparently some fans were worried that the character of Feyd-Rautha wouldn’t be included in his adaptation since he didn’t show up in Part One. Don’t worry; Villeneuve has now confirmed to Empire that Feyd-Rautha will be present in Part Two.

Asked if Feyd-Rautha will be in there, Villeneuve replied,

Definitely. That’s a choice that I personally brought on. There was enough characters that were introduced in this first part, and it will be more elegant to keep Feyd for Part Two. It will be definitely a very, very important character in the second part.”

Feyd-Rautha was played by Sting in David Lynch’s version of Dune, and by Matt Keeslar in the 2000 TV miniseries adaptation.

Scripted by Villeneuve, Eric Roth, and Jon Spaihts, Dune: Part One stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, “a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding” who

must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence – a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential – only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Chalamet’s co-stars include Oscar Issac as Paul’s father Duke Leto Atreides; Rebecca Ferguson as Paul’s mother Lady Jessica; Josh Brolin as troubadour-swordsman Gurney Halleck; Jason Momoa as swordmaster Duncan Idaho; Javier Bardem as helpful tribe leader Stilgar; Stellan Skarsgård as the villainous Baron Harkonnen; Dave Bautista as the brutish “Beast” Rabban; David Dastmalchian as the twisted Piter De Vries; Sharon Duncan-Brewster as ecologist Doctor Liet Kynes; Charlotte Rampling as the emperor’s truthsayer Reverend Mother Mohiam; Chang Chen as physician Dr. Yueh; Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Master of Assassins for House Atreides; and Zendaya as Chani, “a mystery woman who haunts Paul in his dreams”.
