It’s probably a given that the WHEN A STRANGER CALLS remake will disappear from the box office charts faster than Lindsay Lohan’s weight, which makes room for the much superior remake of THE HILLS HAVE EYES. Promotion has kicked it into high gear, with shots of the mutants appearing on the net, and even more impressive, early reviews of the film.
First up was the review for the film from Icons Of Fright, which exclaims that the trailer attack in the remake ‘expands and improves upon the original’, which is good to hear as while the attack back in the original was brutal, but seems to have lost its edge when compared to today’s films. A few minor spoilers here and there with the description of some characters/situations, but other than that, there’s nothing that won’t ruin the film for you, and the film is a swift kick in the rear to the lame-ass remakes that have been coming out recently.
Johnny Butane and the boys at Dread Central chime in with a review of their own, and while it’s slightly less positive than what IconsOfFright said, Butane did say that this remake is superior to the original. How many remakes can you say do that? Not many, that’s for sure. The DC review also points out the same issues as IoF had, namely character design and how awesome the opening was. We’ll have to see what Arrow says. The suspense is deafening, isn’t it?
