Ti West’s Ebenezer, starring Johnny Depp, gets PG-13 rating

Ti West’s Ebenezer, starring Johnny Depp as Scrooge, has received a PG-13 rating ahead of its November 2026 releaseTi West’s Ebenezer, starring Johnny Depp as Scrooge, has received a PG-13 rating ahead of its November 2026 release

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) rating has been revealed on FilmRatings.com, giving audiences another small glimpse at what to expect from the upcoming Charles Dickens adaptation. Directed by Ti West (X, Pearl, MaXXXine), Ebenezer stars Johnny Depp as the miserly Scrooge in a new take on A Christmas Carol, the beloved holiday tale about a man confronted by the ghosts of his past, present, and future.

The PG-13 rating cites “frightening material,” which is quite appropriate for a movie that will feature multiple ghosts. West doesn’t appear to have gone especially dark with the material, but there could still be moments that give the creeps.

Johnny Depp Leads a Star-Studded A Christmas Carol Cast

Depp is joined by an impressive ensemble that includes Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present, and Daisy Ridley as Emily Cratchit. Rupert Grint plays Bob Cratchit, while Sam Claflin takes on the role of Fred, Scrooge’s nephew.

The cast also includes Charlie Murphy, Ellie Bamber, Arthur Conti, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.

West directs from a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern, with Emma Watts producing. The film is being positioned as a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following Scrooge on a supernatural journey through his past, present, and future as he fights for a second chance.

That premise has been brought to the screen many times, from The Muppet Christmas Carol to Bill Murray’s Scrooged and Robert Zemeckis’ motion-capture adaptation starring Jim Carrey. West’s version, however, has the potential to bring a different sensibility to the familiar story, particularly with Depp embracing the role of one of literature’s most famous Christmas curmudgeons.

When Does Ebenezer Come Out?

Paramount Pictures will release Ebenezer in theaters on November 13, 2026. With Depp in the lead and a filmmaker known for horror directing the adaptation, this could be an entertainingly spooky way to kick off the holiday season.
