Edgar Ramirez Replacing Gerard Butler in Point Break Remake

Following the news that Gerard Butler dropped out of the upcoming remake of the action classic POINT BREAK, ZERO DARK THIRTY star Edgar Ramirez is now being eyed for the role originally played by Patrick Swayze.

Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove stated:

“We consider Edgar one of the finest actors in the world today and we are thrilled he will be creating a fresh new take on the iconic character of Bodhi.”

The remake whether warranted or not, will be set in the world of international heists and extreme sports and, like the original, involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring. Director Ericson Core (INVINCIBLE) will try to capture the chaos this time around.

Edgar Ramirez is a talented actor, but this movie has bargain bin written all over it.  Here’s hoping that the “recreation” doesn’t hurt his credibility too much. Ramirez next stars in DELIVER US FROM EVIL with Eric Bana, which has a rather creepy new trailer to check out. The movie is set to begin this summer.

Does Ramirez have what it takes to re-create the Zen-fueled role played by the late Swayze?

It’s not quite the bank robbery from HEAT, but it’s still pretty awesome. (NSFW language):
