Lionsgate has just released the eerie and evocative trailer for their time-hopping horror-thriller ANTEBELLUM, about a successful woman from our time (Janelle Monáe), being somehow transported to the antebellum past as a slave, and must find a way to get back. Here's the official synopsis:

Successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monage) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.

Personally, looks good to me! I especially like the time traveling angle, as I'm surprised there aren't more movies dealing the horrifying implications of time travel (as much as I love the BACK TO THE FUTURE series), especially for certain groups of people in certain parts of history, as this film seems to be exploring. Not saying darker time travel movies don't exist (TIMELINE dealt with the brutality of the past, and 12 MONKEYS and PRIMER got pretty dark), but still nice to see more of them nonetheless.

Meanwhile, the Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz-directed film – also starring Marque Richardson II, Eric Lang, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone – will be released to theaters August 21st.
