End of Watch TV series co-written by David Ayer picked up by Fox

End of Watch TV series, Fox, David Ayer

Fox has issued a script-to-series order for an End of Watch TV series based on the 2012 movie from David Ayer. The original film starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as two young LA police officers patrolling the mean streets. Shot documentary-style, End of Watch saw the duo getting in over their heads after meeting criminal forces greater than themselves.

Co-written and executive produced by Ayer and former Them showrunner David Matthews, End of Watch, the series, follows the same premise as the original film. Per Fox Entertainment’s new strategy, the network has ordered two scripts for the End of Watch TV series. Fox will then choose which they like better and put the preferred version into production.

Ayer, Chris Long, and Darryll C. Scott executive produce via Cedar Park Studios. Also executive producing are Matthews, John Lesher, who produced the movie alongside Ayer, James Masciello (Raven), Andrea Iervolino, and Monika Bacardi. Bill Rotko is a consulting producer.

What do you think of Fox’s plans to revive Ayer’s End of Watch for a TV series? Between this and the network’s planned Cops revival, Fox appears to be betting big on blue. Law enforcement has been a sensitive subject for the past several years, and it will be interesting to see how both projects address the public’s concerns about authoritative figures, if at all.

Are you game for an End of Watch TV series? Do you think Ayer and company will cast big stars in the lead roles or will a pair of unknowns walk the beat? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
