Entering The Ruins

JoBloJoBlo

Author Scott Smith’s first novel A SIMPLE PLAN was turned into a stark, compelling film by Sam Raimi. It took Smith quite a while to get his second book THE RUINS on shelves, but they’re not wasting much time getting it to theaters — a feature film adaptation of the bestselling terror tale has itself a director.

Photographer and music video guy Carter Smith will direct the adaptation, with shooting set to commence in May. The story involves two twentysomething couples vacationing in Mexico, where they join some other tourists and capriciously head off into the jungle seeking an archeological dig site. Unfortunately, instead they encounter hostile villagers and an ancient threat.

*POSSIBLE SPOILER* — I can summarize THE RUINS for you in four words: “It was the vines.”
