Euphoria season 2 won’t begin filming until early 2021

Euphoria made its way back into the headlines when its leading lady, Zendaya, took home the Best Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her gripping portrayal of Rue Bennett on the show. The win made her the youngest person to ever receive the award and as Zendaya rides high on her Emmy win, attention is now being paid to when season two will get started since the series was renewed some time ago.

Unfortunately, the wait for season two is going to be a long one. The show’s eight-episode first season wrapped its run over a year ago on August 4, 2019, and it doesn’t look like the next run of episodes will be ready to air until well into 2021 or even 2022. HBO president Casey Bloys says that they hope to get production started in early 2021.

Since it looks like Euphoria is going to be off the air at least two years in-between seasons, Bloys says that something is in store to tide fans over for a bit. HBO is moving forward with a “special COVID episode” of Euphoria. The HBO president said nothing more of the episode, but Zendaya teased on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in August that a “special episode” was being considered to act as a connector between the two seasons.

"We might end up doing a little bridge episode. I don’t really know how to describe it, but an episode that we can do with a limited amount of people in a safer environment so we have something to live on until we are able to go into Season 2.”

Not looking forward to the long break but curious to see what this "special COVID episode" is going to be all about. In case you're unfamiliar with Euphoria, the series is a look at life for a group of high school students as they grapple with issues of drugs, sex, and violence. It's loosely based on the Israeli series of the same name and create Sam Levinson based the series on his own experiences as a teenager, including his struggles with depression, anxiety, and drug addiction. The series also stars Maude Apatow, Sydney Sweeney, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, and Storm Reid.
