Euphoria: Sydney Sweeney thought Cassie was going to be killed off in season 2

Sydney Sweeney, Euphoria, season 2

Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie Howard seriously went through it all during the second season of the hit HBO series Euphoria and the actress honestly thought her character would be killed off during the show’s sophomore run.

During a recent episode of EW’s The Awardist podcast, Sweeney admitted that she thought all of the madness surrounding Cassie in season 2 would result in the character’s death. When she received the script for the season 2 premiere from creator Sam Levinson, there was one moment that gave her pause about her character’s fate. The scene features Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie drinking alcohol and speeding down a highway. Here is what Sweeney had to say about the scene:

“I thought that Sam was killing me. I thought that I was going to get killed. And the hanging out the window, actually, was just me hanging out the window. It was just random and very in the moment. But when I read it, I thought that Cassie was getting killed off. And I was really bummed. But then it turned into this weirdly sensual, dangerous connection between these two characters. And it became what it became.”

Cassie and Nate’s relationship was one of the more tumultuous things about season 2. They don’t bring out the best in each other but they are attracted to one another so their pull, while toxic, is also alluring. Cassie naturally became a more central character in season 2. During the show’s first season, Cassie was introduced as a timid person who didn’t make nearly as much noise as some of the other characters. Cassie rarely instigated drama in the show’s first season but that changed in season 2 which had her at the center of a triangle between herself, Nate, and Maddy (Alexa Demie). Euphoria might still be about Rue’s (Zendaya) journey but Cassie in particular became a character to watch in season 2.

What are YOUR thoughts on Cassie’s journey during season 2 of Euphoria?
