STYD learned of some interesting and potentially exciting casting news this morning, as it appears as though Shaun Evans has been cast as the lead role of Quaid in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Clive Barker’s DREAD!
Another story from THE BOOKS OF BLOOD anthology to be made into a movie (following MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN and BOOKS OF BLOOD), DREAD goes a little something like this: Quaid, a student of philosophy, is obsessed by his own nightmare of an ax-murdering clown…so he concocts a series of experiments to observe firsthand how other people react to the things that most horrify them. But while Quaid slowly unpeels the psyches of his imprisoned and tortured captives like a reeking onion, his own dread waits, just beyond his control.
Of course he’s afraid of an ax-murdering clown–who isn’t??? It’s been awhile since I’ve read THE BOOKS OF BLOOD, but I gotta be honest with you… I don’t remember this story at all! Maybe it was so horrifying that it has been permanently blocked from my memory… or maybe it was just forgettable. Hard to say at this point, guess we’ll find out soon enough once it comes to the big screen!
