Well, 2021 was the 40th anniversary of the premiere screening of director Sam Raimi‘s classic feature debut The Evil Dead (watch it HERE), so the collectible makers at NECA are running a little behind with the release of their 40th anniversary Ash Williams action figure that matches the look of the iconic hero in the original film… But any time is a good time to celebrate The Evil Dead. NECA gave teasing glimpses at this Ash figure throughout last year; they shared a picture of his accessories in February, then showed the figure relaxing beside some of the accessories in August. The full reveal came in October. Now they’re showing off the VHS-style packaging the figure will come in, and you can see those images below.

The figure comes with three different heads, a couple extra hands, a tape recorder, a lantern, an axe, a shotgun, and a chainsaw. This is Ash when his time as a Deadite killer is getting started, before he loses his right hand and straps the chainsaw onto his wrist.

NECA hasn’t announced a release date for the figure yet, but we previously heard it would be out in early 2022. So any day now…

The original The Evil Dead has the following synopsis:

Ash (Bruce Campbell), his girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker), his sister Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), and couple Scotty (Hal Delrich) and Shelly (Sarah York), drive to a remote cabin in the woods for a fun getaway. While there, they find the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (aka “The Book of the Dead”), an ancient tome whose text reawakens the dead when read out loud. After unintentionally releasing a flood of evil, the five friends must fight for their lives or become possessed.

Campbell played Ash in The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and three seasons of the Ash vs. Evil Dead television series. He has also voiced the character for multiple video games.

Will you be adding this Evil Dead NECA figure to your collection?
