Evil Dead Rise: Bruce Campbell goes all Ash on heckler who disrupted the Q&A after the screening

An audience member angrily voices his displeasure at the filmmakers during a screening, and Bruce Campbell claps back.

There’s just no telling when Ash will run into a deadite. At a screening of the upcoming horror film Evil Dead Rise at the SXSW film festival, during a Q&A session with the cast and crew, an audience member became possessed, not by the Book of the Dead but by the Book of Anger, as he shouted out to the filmmakers on stage, “This movie f**king sucks!” Naturally, the audience felt how disrespectful this was and proceeded to boo the heckler as he made his way out.

According to Deadline, the heckler threw his popcorn in a fit of rage and stormed out after he had been approached by staff members following his little tantrum. The cast and crew laughed it off in disbelief, but the enraged audience member would flip them off before exiting and attempted to yell more obscenities as he was drowned out by the audience’s jeers. At this point, Bruce Campbell shoots back, “What are you doing here? Get the f*ck out of here!” The crowd cheered and laughed as he finally exited. Robert Tapert, the film’s producer, then added, “I don’t get it. He waited all the way through the credits.”

Evil Dead Rise is the new installment in the Evil Dead franchise with seemingly no direct connection to the previous entries or the reboot. Much like the recent Scream VI, this film looks to break from the mold of the preceding installments. It switches up the cabin in the woods setting and takes place in a high-rise apartment building.

The film was written and directed by Lee Cronin, known for The Hole in the Ground, and the film follows two estranged sisters, played by Alyssa Sutherland of The Mist and Lily Sullivan from I Met a Girl, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons. Evil Dead Rise also stars Morgan Davies from Storm Boy, Gabrielle Echols from Reminiscence, and Neil Fisher of Northspur.

Sam Raimi, the creator of the Evil Dead franchise, is on board as an executive producer along with Bruce Campbell, John Keville, Macdara Kelleher, Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Romel Adam, and Victoria Palmieri.
