Exclusive 1:1 Interview: Poltergeist Director Gil Kenan!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

It takes a brave filmmaker to take on remaking POLTERGEIST. Thankfully, the fine gentleman who brought us MONSTER HOUSE and CITY OF EMBERS decided to have while still paying respect to the original. While the new film certainly has a different tone from Tobe Hooper directed, Steven Spielberg produced classic, in many ways this feels like a homage to it. And it also happens to feature a strong cast, with Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Jane Adams giving serious cred to this haunted feature.

When I sat down with Mr. Kenan, he opened up about why he was hesitant to do the film initially, and more importantly, why he ultimately took it on. Clearly he loves the original and he expressed who he wanted to treat the franchise with respect. He also discussed the cast and exactly how lucky he was when Rockwell and DeWitt signed on. If you are looking for some big screen fun house thrills this weekend, check out POLTERGEIST currently playing at a theatre near you.
