Exclusive: Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain talk Crimson Peak!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

On October 16th, visionary director Guillermo del Toro will unveil his latest piece of gothic craftsmanship, CRIMSON PEAK, a supernatural thriller the director has been working on for a little under a decade. Featuring dilapidated manors, tortured spirits, dark aristocratic secrets and a general sense of “old dark house” unease, the film feels like all of del Toro’s creepiest fantasies have literally been spilled out on screen.

Recently, I was lucky enough to speak to most of the main players involved with the film, including Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain, who play a couple of mysterious, possibly villainous siblings who enter the life of the film’s young heroine, played by Mia Wasikowska. Vulnerable and yearning for romance, Wasikowska’s Edith Cushing may find herself regretting the move that brings her to the movie’s titular location before long.

In the first interview, I speak to Hiddleston about his character’s Byronic influences, working with del Toro and (off topic a bit) whether or not he misses portraying the infamous Loki.

Jessica Chastain is by far one of my favorite people to talk to – this being my fourth time interviewing the acclaimed actress – and this might be my favorite performance of hers to date. While her natural beauty and charisma are usually impossible to miss, her Lucille Sharpe is a thoroughly cold and manipulative creation, fitting quite well into del Toro’s sinister world. Here we talk about the challenging relationship her character shares with Hiddleston’s, the dark place she went to with Lucille, and watching herself on screen.
