We’ve still got Oren Peli’s AREA 51 and Gonzalo López-Gallego’s APOLLO 18 on the horizon (although who can say definitively when either will actually come out?), but that’s not going to be the limit on extraterrestrial-related found footage horror. Bloody Disgusting reports that producer Mike Fleiss, who helped bring the HOSTEL films to the big screen, is working on an untitled thriller with producer-turned-director Matty Beckerman about a family outing gone horribly wrong.

Via Bloody Disgusting, the movie will follow the Johnsons on a road trip to Florida where they land in the middle of a hurricane. They decide to take cover in North Carolina with relatives — only on the way their navigation goes wonky. They end up in the deep backwoods of the Appalachian Mountains where they come face to face with malevolent alien creatures. The film will be the shocking final footage of the Johnson family vacation…

Beckerman is making his directorial debut on the project, which was penned by Robert Alvin Lewis. Beckerman previously produced the Adrien Brody prison drama THE EXPERIMENT and the still-unreleased thriller ISOLATION. No word on when this new film gets underway, but we’ll keep an eye on it.

THE EXPERIMENT’s Maggie Grace
