Fame guy’s sci-fi

JoBloJoBlo

When you consider the update of FAME, you might (or might not) wonder what sort of material that film’s director Kevin Tancharoen will tackle next. But you probably wouldn’t guess it’s an original big-budget sci-fi action flick produced by Brett Ratner.

But that’s where the choroegrapher/filmmaker is going with ARCANA, which he describes to Moviehole as “a unique blend of the graphic-novel backdrop – like BLADE RUNNER – and shot like 300, and has a little bit of WARRIORS mixed in there, with a little bit of martial arts, so it’s got a lot of crazy elements in there. It’s going to be really cool.

Novelist/screenwriter/comic scribe John Ridley is currently at work on the script. Ridley most recently penned RED TAILS (George Lucas’ Tuskegee Airmen movie), but previously wrote Oliver Stone’s U-TURN (and “Stray Dogs”, the book from which it was adapted) and created UNDERCOVER BROTHER. Solid!

As to how the guy bringing competetive angst-filled musical teens to theaters is qualified to handle the stylized action, Tancharoen says: “I’m first a comic and video-game nerd… who got into dancing somehow.
